<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method of a linear actuator capable of detecting abnormality at an early stage. <P>SOLUTION: An amplitude controller 40 detects an amplitude of a movable element 12 that is caused to reciprocate with respect to a stator 11, further detects temporal variations of a load corresponding to a temporal change of the amplitude having been detected and furthermore detects abnormality from the temporal variations. In addition, the amplitude controller 40 outputs the amplitude having been detected to a control output section 50.
