PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress deformation of a support on a side of a cylinder block in a variable compression ratio mechanism when a combustion pressure acts on the cylinder block via a cylinder head.
SOLUTION: In an internal combustion engine, camshafts of the variable compression ratio mechanism are supported by a cam insertion hole 51 formed in the cylinder block side support provided in a lower part of a side wall of the cylinder block and a cam insertion hole formed in a crankcase side support provided in an upper part of a side wall of a crankcase; the cylinder block side support is divided into a base part 50a formed integrally with the cylinder block 2 and a divided part 50b by setting a flat surface P2 substantially parallel to a perpendicular plane in which a plurality of cylinder axial lines are positioned, as a boundary therebetween; and the divided part is fixed to the base part by a bolt BL. In the internal combustion engine, the bolt is screwed into the cylinder block while penetrating the base part, and a coolant channel WJ of the cylinder block is formed at a depth to a side at least partially directly above the base part so as to prevent the coolant channel from interfering with a screw hole into which the bolt of the cylinder block is screwed.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
