<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of obtaining a zero-bias state without increasing the cost. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a calibration unit 100, which stores the following control signal in a storage unit 15 as a reference signal to obtain a zero-bias state in which the Coulomb force acting on a toner constituting a toner image in a nip N is zero. The control signal is based on a control signal acquired through a step of changing a control signal to a transfer voltage application unit 13 while applying a charging voltage to a photoreceptor 43 by a charging roller 49 and a step of determining the signal when the presence or absence of a current value detected by a current detecting unit 14 changes.
