[Also in Group XXII] An electrical lead for insertion into a hole of a printed circuit board is terminated by an adapter member 1 cold formed on a taper about and into light engagement with the lead 4 to provide a connection of non-circular tapered cross-section. The connection so formed is wedged within the hole 17 of the circuit board 19 (Fig. 3) and the assembly is dipped in solder to form solder fillets on both sides of the board around the connection. In an embodiment a longitudinal groove 23 is formed along the surface of the connection 27 (Fig. 10) to expose the lead 4 and to ensure a good electrical contact between the lead and a metal strip 21 (Fig. 5). The leads may be trimmed to form connections as shown in Figs. 10 and 14. |
