Apparatus and method for separating food slices

An apparatus 102 for separating products such as food slices carried on a conveyor 104 comprises a brush device 220 located above the conveyor 104, including a plurality of downwardly directed brush elements 234 mutually spaced in a direction along the length of the conveyor 104 and adapted intermittently to brush products in a direction along the length of the conveyor 104. The brush device 220 may comprise a height adjustable endless belt driven in a forward or rearward direction and carrying a series of transverse brush elements 234. The conveyor 104 may include a series of transverse separating strips 210 forming a series of idenxed regions 212 along the conveyor 104. The food slices may be low oil potato chips. Also disclosed is a different separating apparatus with a kick roller (20 fig. 1) and an air knife (50 fig. 1).
