摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite which has swelling ability (Quellung) and simultaneously has high ion conductivity (especially proton conductivity) even when an operating temperature in an electrochemical cell is raised to above 100&deg;C. <P>SOLUTION: The invention relates to a composite or a composite membrane consisting of an ionomer and an inorganic optionally functionalized phyllosilicate. The ionomer may be: (a) a cation exchange polymer; (b) an anion exchange polymer; (c) a polymer including both a cation exchange group and an anion exchange group on the polymer chain; or (d) a mixture consisting of (a) and (b), whereby the mixture ratio can range from 100% (a) to 100% (b). The invention also relates to following applications of the composite/composite membrane, they are, a proton conductor of a membrane fuel cell (an H<SB POS="POST">2</SB>fuel cell PEFC and a direct methanol fuel cell DMFC) at a temperature higher than 100&deg;C, an (electrical) membrane separation method such as dialysis, diffusion dialysis, gas separation, pervaporation, permeation extraction, microfiltration, and ultrafiltration, and a catalytic membrane of a catalytic membrane reactor. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
