The device has a flow monitor (1) operated based on floating body principle or ultrasound principle, where the device measures leakage of drinking water based on whether water flow is standstill or a water network is shielded. A sensor is utilized to check whether the water flow is standstill at regular intervals, and outputs current state of the sensor to a delayed contact, a relay or an electronic transistor. An alarm is triggered to actuate a buzzer, a warning light and/or a valve, which lead to switching off of water supply.
