PURPOSE: A file extracting device and a method thereof for random access in a media system are provided to support random access regardless of reproduction length of a media file in a media system. CONSTITUTION: An index data extracting unit(132) receive random access information according to a random access request of a user. The index data extracting unit extracts index data. A calculation unit(134) calculates a transfer location to a target frame based on the extracted index data. A target frame extracting unit(136) extracts a target frame from media data according to movement location to the target frame.
