<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform excellent observation in an observation apparatus which observes a sample existing in liquid. <P>SOLUTION: The observation apparatus includes: an illumination optical system 32 for irradiating the sample with illumination light; and an observation optical system 33 for collecting the light from the sample. The illumination optical system 32 and the observation optical system 33 are adjusted according to the kind of a culture container in which the sample is stored. An angle of the light axis of luminous fluxes of the illumination light collected on the sample from the vicinity with respect to the light axis of the luminous fluxes being the center of the illumination light can be changed by adjusting a position of a light axis direction of an aperture 42A. When the culture container is a well plate, the angle is adjusted to be narrow. When the culture container is a dish, the angle is adjusted to wide.
