<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the thickness of an image reading device having a light guide member for guiding light from a light source to an object. <P>SOLUTION: The image reading device includes: a light source; a light guide member for guiding light emitted from the light source to irradiate an object; an image forming optical system for reflecting light directed in a first direction from the object in a second direction intersecting the first direction via a reflection surface disposed in the first direction of the object, and converging the light reflected by the reflection surface in the second direction via an emission section arranged in the second direction of the reflection surface, to form an erecting same magnification image of the object in the second direction of the emission section; and an optical sensor disposed in the second direction of the emission section of the image forming optical system to detect the erecting same magnification image formed by the image forming optical system.
