PURPOSE: A battery energy storage system is provided to maximize the expandability of a system by integrally controlling a plurality of battery energy storage systems using a separate master system controller. CONSTITUTION: One or more battery management devices(200) include one or more batteries. A power management device(210) charges the battery by using power from a system. The power management device supplies the charged power to the system by discharging. A system controller(220) checks the charging condition of the battery. The system controller decides an operation mode of the battery management device and the power management device according to the charging condition.
