ACIDIC DEZINCIFICATION

The invention relates to a method for dezincifying zinced steel scrap, wherein the zinced steel scrap is brought into contact with an acidic solution, which is already pre-loaded with zinc ions. It has been shown that a significant acceleration of the zinc dissolution can be effected in this way so that the reaction times can be kept sufficiently low to substantially prevent iron from also being dissolved, which would be undesirable. In particular, the method can be coupled with the primary zinc production in that a solution produced during the dissolution of zinc oxide obtained from zinc ore is used as the acidic solution.
