PURPOSE: A positive electrode active material for lithium secondary batteries and a lithium secondary battery including the same are provided to enhance energy density, cycle life time, output characteristic and thermal stability. CONSTITUTION: A positive electrode active material for lithium secondary batteries includes a compound represented by chemical formula 1. The chemical formula 1 is as follows: (Li xNa (1.5-x)) a (Z) z ((V) (O (1.5-f))) (1-z) (XO 4) F. The positive electrode active material has a nasicon structure, and Z is an element selected from Fe, Ni, Co, Mn, Cr, Zr, Nb, Cu, Ti, Zn, Al, Ga, Mg, Ca and a combination thereof. X is an element selected from P, S, Si, Mo, As, W and a combination thereof. a,x, and z respectively indicate real numbers which satisfy 0 < a <= 1, 0 < x <= 1.5, 0 <= z <= 0.5. f is determined to match the electroneutrality of the compound and is a real number which satisfies 0.5 <= f <= 1.5.
