<p>A calibration rig 1 for calibrating a torque wrench 9 has a support structure 3 for supporting torque wrench 9 during calibration. Support structure 3 comprises a support member 7, such as a platform bearing handle 11 of torque wrench 9, which can move substantially vertically; a means 2 for applying a measured torque to the torque wrench 9, for example a motor 6 rotating a socket 4; and a means for resisting rotation of torque wrench 9 as a result of the applied torque, for example a post (16, Figure 5) or rollers (18, Figure 6). Rig 1 also has means (14, Figure 5) for applying a balance force to support member 7, preferably a counterweight (15, Figure 5) of variable weight. A camera 10, for viewing a scale 11 of torque wrench 9, may be attached to support structure 3.</p> |
