An unsaturated polyester resin is copolymerized, e.g. with styrene, at room temperature in the presence, as catalyst, of 1,11-dihydroxydicyclohexylperoxide and an accelerator. There may also be present other products of the reaction of cyclohexanone with hydrogen peroxide provided the mixture contains more than 50% of the above compound. The accelerator may be cobalt naphthenate and/or octoate. The polyester resin may be formed from maleic acid and ethylene or propylene glycol, part of the acid being replaced, if desired, by phthalic or adipic acid. |
