Embodiments of techniques and systems for utilize an interactive communication design system (“ICD”) along with a prompt-and-response mode of collecting data for the purposes of organizing ideas to be included in an essay are described. In various implementations, a series of pre-formulated essay questions, or prompts, may be posed to a student individually so as not to overwhelm him or her and to encourage and secure participation. The prompts may incorporate responses to previous prompts and may encourage restatement of ideas from the student. Responses that are received may be saved and published in various professional formats. Additionally, the generated work may be analyzed and one or more metrics generated based on the work.
