The present invention relates to a fireplace with an open hearth 21 or a closed continuous fire hearth 2 comprising a hood 31/3/22 situated over the said hearth, which hood is suspended, is independent of the hearth, is mounted bearing on a support wall 6/61, 15 and surrounds a smoke flue 8 or the closed hearth 2 and their smoke outlet conduit 37, characterised in that the said hood is made up of two superposed bodies 221/222, of which one 221 of larger dimensions is situated below the other 222 of smaller dimensions, in such a way that a space 23 is left between the said bodies in order to create a passage of convection air, and in that the said hood is suspended via its lowermost body 221 by means of a metal frame fixed in a cantilevered manner to the said wall 6/61 and comprising, parallel to the contour of the hood, a passage of convection air 21 for ensuring, together with the said space 23 existing between the said body of the hood, a ventilation inside the hood between the latter and the said flue 8, or the said closed hearth 2, for the purpose of preventing any risk of cracking of the hood; the said framework is joined to an insulating structure which comprises a multi-point attachment for distributing the load on the bearing wall and fixing the fireplace to walls of a lightweight construction. <IMAGE>
