The present invention relates to a method for displaying the minimum radar cross-section (RCS) of the targets that the radar can detect, and particularly to a method for displaying a plan position indicator (PPI). The invention relates to the general field of radars, and in particular to that of maritime surveillance radars on an aircraft or ship. The method according to the invention is characterized in that it consists of measuring the probability distribution of the received radar data, measuring the threshold of detection using the complementary distribution function for a value of the given probability of a false alarm (Pfa), the threshold being then converted to an RCS value, and the obtained values being then transmitted to a display device that displays according to distance, azimuth, and elevation.
