PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect a developer conveyance state corresponding to carrier deterioration of the developer.

SOLUTION: The development apparatus includes: a conveyance screw 563 for conveying a developer from a developer tank 513; detection means 593 for detecting a passage amount of the developer conveyed by the conveyance screw 563 in a detection area; and supply means st which is arranged on a more upstream side in a developer conveyance direction than the detection area and controls a supply amount of the developer to the detection area by the conveyance screw 563. The developer is intermittently supplied to the detection area by the supply means st, and a conveyance state of the supplied developer is detected by the detection means 593.
