A method of shopping within an electronic commerce environment includes providing first, second and third user interfaces generated by a server computer system, enabling a user of an electronic commerce website to select an item for sale using the first user interface, providing, to the user, a suggestion for a recipient for the selected item based on a relationship between the user and the suggested recipient, enabling the user to designate the suggested recipient as a prospective recipient of the selected item using the second user interface, and enabling the user to contribute funds toward a purchase of the selected item using the third user interface wherein the selected item is to be shipped to the prospective recipient subsequent to the purchase. The relationship is to be identified using characterization information associated with the user and stored in a database on the server computer system. |
