Class 75(1) An oil lamp for lighting or low heating comprises an oil container with a sheet metal top 2 secured to a body part 1, and an upstanding hollow burner body 6 integral wth the top 2 and having in its sides primary air inlet apertures 21 and in its top an air outlet aperture 22, Fig. 6. situated adjacent a wick tube 14 associated with a wick winder 24, 26, the upper end of the wick tube projecting from the burner body 6 and being surrounded by a flame-shaping cone 19 spaced from the wick tube and having a flat inturned base 20 seated on top of the burner body 6 and slotted to receive the wick tube which has projections or tongues 15 bearing on the base 20 and which passes through slots in the top and bottom of the burner body and is expanded or spread at its lower end on to the bottom of the burner body so that the wick tube and cone 19 are firmly secured to the burner body. As shown in Fig. 1 the wick winding spindle 24 has bearings in a lower step 10 of a cylindrical burner body portion 6 rising from a conical sheet metal annular top portion 2 having its rim 4 spun over a flange on the cylindrical wall of the container to form the top thereof. At a shoulder 18 just below the spindle a bottom plate 17 with a central depression and covering the oil space is held in place by the peened-over ends of the wick guide tube 14 which towards its upper region has pressed-out tongues 15 bearing on the enclosing flat top 7 of the hollow burner body 6. The flame-shaping cone 19 is flattened and flared at the top. The aperture 22, Fig. 6, allows air to enter inside the flame-shaping cone. When the lamp is used for lighting, a glass chimney 27 is provided carried in a gallery piece 28 the skirt 29 of which fits over an upper step 11 of the body 6 and is held in position by bayonet joints 31, Fig. 2, so that air apertures 30 in the skirt 29 of the gallery and the apertures 21 in the cylindrical step are in register. When the lamp is used for heating an enclosing gauze 33, Fig. 7, is provided instead of the gallery and glass chimney but with its skirt 35 masking the air apertures 21. A filling aperture 5, Fig. 7, is formed in the conical top portion 2.</p> |
