The device (9) has a base body (10) rotatably mounted at a rotational axis (A) and provided with two contact surfaces (27) arranged at a distance from each other and in a equal distance from the rotational axis. A clamping body (21) has a clamping surface (24) lying opposite to the contact surfaces and parallel to the rotational axis. The clamping body is radially adjusted to the rotational axis by a drive (13). A measurement device e.g. rotation angle sensor, directly or indirectly measures a radial position of the clamping body regarding the rotational axis of the base body. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring a position of a mass inertia axis of a workpiece.
