<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plate material with artificially grained surface, in which a highly decorative grain pattern can be optionally applied to a flat-sawn or quarter-sawn plate material without using a grained protruding plate, a vinyl chloride sheet with a grain pattern printed thereon or the like, or without performing stress loading by a mold, and the plate material can almost keep the natural specific gravity by partially performing compression only to a fixed depth from the surface on a necessary side; and to provide a method for manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: One surface of the flat-sawn or quarter-sawn plate material is subjected to cutting work, whereby the grain pattern is varied so that the plate material has a highly decorative undulated grain pattern like a natural grain.
