Provided are a method and apparatus and software or hardware-implemented logic for responding to user interaction with GUI objects by changing the visual appearance of a boundary that a GUI object is close to. This provides feedback to the user as the GUI object approaches the boundary and crosses through the boundary, which is especially advantageous on touchscreen devices and on electronic devices such as mobile telephones that have small screen areas. Operations can be invoked by gestures that move a GUI object from a first to a second screen area, and the visual feedback of a flexing boundary reduces the likelihood of unintentional invocations.
