摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading technique capable of shortening a time required for reading the whole of a manuscript without complicating a configuration even in an image formation device having only one system of analog image processing means and digital image processing means. <P>SOLUTION: An image reading device has reading means having a plurality of line sensors that performs photoelectric conversion of reflection light from a manuscript exposed from light exposure means to read an image represented on the manuscript, and reading the image by a first line sensor in the case that a first operation mode is set, and reading the image by the first line sensor and a second line sensor in the case that a second operation mode is set. When the image reading device is instructed to read the image, an image reading speed by the reading means is controlled to be a first speed. The first operation mode is set, and the reading means is controlled. Thereafter, when occurrence of a first intermittent factor is detected, the speed is reduced from the first speed to a second speed.
