摘要 Provided are: a porous electrode base material that has high thickness precision, gas permeability, and electroconductivity, sufficient handling performance, low manufacturing cost, and a high carbonization ratio during carbonization; a method for manufacturing same; a precursor sheet and fibrillar fibers used to create this base material; and a membrane-electrode assembly and a solid polymer fuel cell including this base material. A method for manufacturing a porous electrode base material, the method including a step (1) for manufacturing a precursor sheet in which carbon short fibers (A) and carbon precursor fibers (b) are dispersed, and a step (2) for subjecting the precursor sheet to carbonization treatment, the volume contraction ratio of the carbon precursor fibers (b) due to step (2) being equal to or less than 83%. The porous electrode base material obtained using the above method, a precursor sheet and fibrillar fibers used to fabricate this base material, and a membrane-electrode assembly and a solid polymer fuel cell including this base material.
