<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively carry out purification and sterilization of contaminated media such as air and water. <P>SOLUTION: A method for the treatment of a fluid is characterized in that ozone is generated in a medium, and simultaneously with the generation of the ozone, the ozone is exposed to UV radiation, so that it is broken down and free radicals are obtained. An apparatus in accordance with the method comprises an enclosure (1) provided with at least one inlet (2) and at least one outlet (3).
