A communication apparatus and a method for reducing standby power are provided to prevent unnecessary standby power consumption by supplying DC power to a communication circuit only during the operation of an electric device. A communication apparatus includes a communication circuit(20), a terminal(10), a signal input unit(40), a control unit(50), and a communication relay(30). The communication circuit controls communication. The terminal connects a power terminal and a communication terminal to the communication circuit. The signal input unit outputs a signal to connect or disconnect the terminal and the communication circuit according to an input signal of the signal input unit. The communication relay connects or disconnects the terminal and the communication circuit according to an output signal of the control unit. |
