Provided are a method and user equipment for feeding back channel state information. The method includes: the user equipment determining a second parameter y of a feedback mode according to the number of ports of the channel state indication-reference signal (CSI-RS) of high layer signalling configuration, or according to the number of ports of the CSI-RS and the indication information indicating whether or not to feed back the precoding matrix indicator (PMI) and the rank indicator (RI); the user equipment determining a feedback mode according to the transmission mode of the high layer signalling configuration, a first parameter x of the feedback mode and the second parameter y of the feedback mode; and the user equipment feeding back the channel state information according to the determined feedback mode. The present invention enables transmission mode 9 to support the switching between two types of feedback modes, improving the flexibility and performance of the system and reducing the feedback cost.
