<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for preventing erroneous detection by a capacitive touch panel, in which an attached foreign matter such as a water droplet on the surface of the capacitive touch panel is not erroneously detected as an operation instruction by a user. <P>SOLUTION: At the surface side of a touch panel which detects an operation instruction by an object by detecting a change in capacitance, a proximity sensor is provided for detecting an object in the proximity of the touch panel. When the touch panel detects a change in capacitance, if the proximity sensor does not detect an object in the proximity, the change in capacitance is determined as caused by a foreign matter attached to the touch panel, while if the proximity sensor detects an object in the proximity, it is determined as an instruction given by a user. If it is determined that a foreign matter is attached, detection sensitivity of that region is reduced. If it is detected that the detected foreign matter has moved downwards, sensitivity of regions vertically below that region is reduced. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
