<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a diffusely-reflecting polarizer with improved optical characteristics and stability. <P>SOLUTION: A first polymer has a double refraction of less than 0.02 and is a substantially amorphous nanocomposite material and a major phase 14. A second polymer is a dispersed minor phase 12; shows, along a first axis for polarization state of one of electromagnetic radiations, a diffuse reflectance R<SB POS="POST">1d</SB>, a regular reflectance R<SB POS="POST">1s</SB>, a total reflectance R<SB POS="POST">1t</SB>, a diffuse transmittance T<SB POS="POST">1d</SB>, a regular transmittance T<SB POS="POST">1s</SB>and a total transmittance T<SB POS="POST">1t</SB>; shows, along a second axis orthogonal to the first axis, a diffuse reflectance R<SB POS="POST">2d</SB>, a regular reflectance R<SB POS="POST">2s</SB>, a total reflectance R<SB POS="POST">2t</SB>, a diffuse transmittance T<SB POS="POST">2d</SB>, a regular transmittance T<SB POS="POST">2s</SB>and a total transmittance T<SB POS="POST">2t</SB>; and is selected so as to satisfy the formula: (1) R<SB POS="POST">1d</SB>being larger than R<SB POS="POST">1s</SB>; and (2) T<SB POS="POST">2t</SB>/(1-0.5(R<SB POS="POST">1t</SB>+R<SB POS="POST">2t</SB>))>1.35. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
