<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charger that suppresses wear of charge terminals and terminals of a portable device. <P>SOLUTION: The charger for charging the portable device includes a case, a slide member, a pivotal member and the charge terminals. The slide member can slide relative to the case between a first position and a second position, and is situated in the first position when the portable device is not placed on the charger and situated in the second position when the portable device is placed on the charger. The pivotal member can pivot relative to the case between a third position and a fourth position, and when the slide member is slid from the first position to the second position, is pressed by the slide member to pivot from the third position to the fourth position. The charge terminals are connected to the pivotal member. The third position is where the charge terminals are away from the positions of the terminals of the portable device placed on the charger.
