The invention relates to an actuating device (10) for a vehicle door, (35) comprising a grip element (14) having an actuating side (38), which is designed as a handle for a user (48), and a releasable fold-out locking device (47), which is provided with a time-delay member (16). The grip element (14) can be moved, independently of the state of the fold-out locking device (47), out of a rest position (S0) along a fold-in direction (49), in which the actuating side (38) is moved away from the side of the access (51) of a user (48). The grip element (14) can be moved out of the rest position (S0) along a fold-out direction (29) opposite the fold-in direction (49) only in an unlocked state of the fold-out locking device (47). The fold-out locking device (47) can be switched from a locking state into the unlocked state by a movement of the grip element (14) out of the rest position (S0) into a fold-in end position (S1), which is located in the fold-in direction (49). The fold-out locking device (47) returns from the unlocked state to the locking state only after a predetermined delay time period has elapsed after removal of the load on the grip element (14).
