<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element that can perform display with high contrast and can be efficiently manufactured. <P>SOLUTION: A laminate includes: a polarizing layer that has a reflection surface provided with two or more groove structures each comprising a plurality of grooves arranged in the width direction, being different in the lengthwise direction of the grooves, and when the two or more groove structures is irradiated with natural light having a wavelength of λ, emitting first linearly polarized light having the vibration direction of an electric field vector parallel to the lengthwise direction of the grooves, as regularly reflected light with higher intensity in comparison with second linearly polarized light having the vibration direction of an electric field vector vertical to that of the first linearly polarized light; and a birefringent retardation layer that faces the polarizing layer and has an optical axis inclined to the lengthwise direction of all the grooves of the two or more groove structures. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
