[Also in Group XIII] Plastic material e.g. rubber is demoistured during treatment in a Banbury mixer comprising a mixing chamber 10 and rotors 11, 12 by subjecting it to pressure by the charging ram 20 which has sufficient clearance in the guideway 14 to allow liquid to pass above the ram. The upper surface 25 of the ram is inclined to direct the liquid into a drain tube and pipe 28, 29; to prevent material entering the tube 29 during charging, the opening 28 is normally closed by a sliding plunger 31 actuated by a fluid-pressure cylinder and piston 34, 33. The ram 20 is also actuated by a fluid-pressure cylinder and piston 23, 24 and carries a rod 26, Fig. 3 (not shown) which when the ram is in its lowest position closes an electric switch to withdraw the plunger 31, see Fig. 2 (not shown) and allow liquid to escape. The swinging door 16 of the loading shoot 15 may also be operated by the fluid-pressure system so that the door will be raised to its closed position as shown on descent of the ram, and lowered to its loading position when the ram is raised. A modified ram has an upper surface of inverted V shape, the drain tubes 29, 30 being duplicated. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 852,173.
