<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium excellent in both electromagnetic transferring characteristics and travelling characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: A magnetic recording medium according to the present invention comprises: a non-magnetic supporting body; a non-magnetic layer formed on one principal surface of the non-magnetic supporting body; and a magnetic layer formed on a principal surface of the non-magnetic layer opposite to a non-magnetic supporting body side. When Mr represents a residual magnetic flux density of the magnetic layer and t represents an average thickness of the magnetic layer, Mr and t satisfy the following expression: 0.0020 μT m≤Mr t≤0.015 μT m. When L1 represents an average thickness of a first mixed layer formed on a surface of the magnetic layer opposite to the non-magnetic layer side, L1 satisfies the following expression: 2 nm≤L1≤6 nm.
