<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochemical machining method capable of suppressing both the short circuit and shortening machining time. <P>SOLUTION: In the electrochemical machining method, an electrolyte is supplied from an electrolyte supply hole 11c of an electrode 11 to a machined object 1, and voltage is applied between the electrode 11 and the machined object 1. At least one of the voltage applied between the electrode 11 and the machined object 1 or current flowing between the electrode 11 and the machined object 1 is detected by a detection unit 18, and a speed of relative displacement of the electrode 11 to the machined object 1 side is changed based on a detection result by the detection unit 18. The voltage applied between the electrode 11 and the machined object 1 is detected by the detection unit 18, and when the detection voltage by the detection unit 18 indicates an increase which signals penetration short circuit, the displacement speed is reduced.
