Disclosed are a file downloading method and system for a terminal, which relate to the network communication technology and solve the problem that downloading fails because the terminal cannot find the file when a network where the file server is deployed does not belong to the network connected by a default interface of the terminal. In the present invention, the terminal sets downloading channel indication information in a file downloading request message by using downloading channel parameters carried in a file downloading command, the downloading channel indication information being capable of instructing a management equipment to select a forwarding interface to forward the file downloading request message to a correct file server; and then the file server transmits the file to the terminal, so the aim of downloading the file from the correct file server can be fulfilled, and the problem that downloading fails because the terminal cannot find the file is solved. The present invention is mainly used for upgrading broadband network equipment.
