PURPOSE: An escalator device is provided to convert and store load generating in an electric motor to potential energy and to use the potential energy to power additionally required to the load of passengers boarding on an ascending escalator. CONSTITUTION: An escalator device(1) comprises a descending escalator unit(100), an ascending escalator unit(200), and a driving unit(300). The descending and ascending escalator units comprise a pair of link chains, waterproofing footrest members, and a driving chain. The link chains comprise multiple step links and have a closed loop shape. The waterproofing footrest members are supported by both ends of the pair of link chains. The driving chain drives the link chains in one direction.
