PURPOSE: A cyclic phosphate N-phenyl maleimide and a copolymer and a composition containing the same are provided to improve thermal resistance and flame retardancy. CONSTITUTION: A cyclic phosphate N-phenyl maleimide is denoted by chemical formula 1. A method for preparing the same comprises: a step of reacting N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)maleimide and neopentyl glycol chloro phosphite to synthesize an intermediate of chemical formula 4; and a step of oxidizing the intermediate. A copolymer is prepared by copolymerization of cyclic phosphate N-phenyl maleimide and monofunctional unsaturated monomers. The copolymer contains 1-50 wt% of cyclic phosphate N-phenyl maleimide. The monofunctional unsaturated monomer is a (metha)acrylate-based monomer. A thermoplastic resin composition contains the copolymers.
