PURPOSE: A washing machine capable of improving the operation accuracy of a buoyancy clutch, and a controlling method thereof are provided to rotate an inner container when the inner container is filled with washing water. CONSTITUTION: A washing machine comprises the following: a hub(50) coupled to a second driving shaft for supporting an inner container, including plural through-holes located on the lower side of a buoyancy clutch; and a flow path guide(60) located in between the hub and an outer container, for guiding washing water discharged from the through-holes to drain holes on the outer container.
