PURPOSE: A user interface device of an air purifier is provided to control the operation of the air purifier by analyzing the pattern of an encoder switch. CONSTITUTION: A user interface device of an air purifier includes a rotation switch(55), a disk(56), an encoder(57), and a controlling part. The controlling command of a user is input through the rotation switch. The disk is in connection with the shaft of the rotation switch. An infrared ray reflective region and an infrared ray absorbent region are alternately arranged at the circumferential surface of the disk. The encoder irradiates infrared rays to the disk in order to verify whether the irradiated part of the disk is the reflective region or the absorbent region. If the irradiated part of the disk is the reflective region, the encoder outputs pulses. The controlling part analyzes the number and the widths of the pulses to verify the operation and the operation intensity of the air purifier. Based on the analysis, a controlling signal is generated.
