PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact water purification material capable of easily obtaining superior water treatment performance.

SOLUTION: The water purification material includes: a braided string comprising tubular cord braiding comprising at least carbon fibers and a porous material filled into the inside of the braided string. In the water purification material, the braided string preferably includes a main line part 11 and a branch line part 12 in which a part of the fibers constituting the braided string protrudes from a side surface of the main line part 11.
