Disclosed are a method and a device for selecting a reference signal root sequence group. The present invention relates to the field of communications and effectively solves problems of reference signal interference between user devices of different types within a same cell and among cells. Under the method of embodiments of the present invention, random parameters are obtained of a first-type user device for a cell where a second-type user device is located; on the basis of the random parameters of the first-type user device so obtained, random parameters are obtained of the second-type user device; on the basis of the random parameters of the second-type user device so obtained, a root sequence group serial number is computed for said second-type user device; the root sequence group serial number of said second-type user device is different from the root sequence group serial number of a first-type user device in any cell of the subset of cells to which said second-type user device belongs. The embodiments of the present invention are for use primarily in communication systems.
