[Class 52 (ii)] In an adjustable reclining chair &c. wherein the seat, a downward extension of the back rest and a link chain composed of a number of connecting links form movable members of a link system swingably mounted on a support and wherein the movements of a leg rest, pivoted to the seat, are controlled by a controlling mechanism in dependence on the movements of a member of the link system, the controlling mechanism comprises a controlling link pivoted at one end to the leg rest and at the other end to a link of the link system. As shown in Fig. 1 the seat 12, lower extension 20 of the back rest 16 lower bent link 22 and front connecting link 24 comprise the link system which is swingably supported on the support 10 by pivots 14, 18 and is guided in its movements by a guiding link 32 pivoted at 34 to the support 10 and to the lower link 22 at 36. The leg rest 38 is pivoted to the seat at 40 and is controlled in its movements by a controlling link 42 pivoted to the leg rest and to the lower connecting link 22 at 48. In modifications the controlling link 42 may be pivoted to the front connecting link or to an extension thereof or to an extension of the lower connecting link Stops are provided for the chair in its seating and extreme reclining position and in addition a locking lever 52 may be provided for locking it in either of those positions as well as, if desired, intermediate positions. The lever 52 is operated for release by a handle 58 and comprises a spring-urged arm 54 having a slot 60 with one or more notches 62 engageable by a fixed pin 64 on the support 10. |
