The invention relates to a method for operating an internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine comprises a high-pressure accumulator (13) and a low-pressure region (8). In the method, an open position of the pressure control valve (10) is dependent on an actuating pressure. A negative load change of the internal combustion engine is detected.
