<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions and methods for promoting bone growth and mineralization. <P>SOLUTION: There are provided the compositions and methods for promoting bone growth and increasing bone density. In part, the disclosure demonstrates that molecules having activin or ActRIIa antagonist activity (activin antagonists and ActRIIa antagonists) can be used to increase bone density, promote bone growth, and/or increase bone strength.
