<p>The present invention provides a novel process for producing 2-oxo-4-methylthiobutanoic acid or salts thereof. A process for producing 2-oxo-4-methylthiobutanoic acid or salts thereof comprises a step of reacting methanethiol metal salts and 2-oxo-3-butenoic acid. Specific example of the methanethiol metal salts includes methanethiol alkali metal salts such as litium methane thiolate, sodium methane thiolate, potassium methane thiolate and the others and methanethiol alkaline-earth metal salts such as calcium methane thiolate, barium methane thiolate and the others.</p> |
