934,002. Friction clutches. MASCHINENFABRIK HEID A.G. Aug. 23, 1961 [Dec. 14, 1960], No. 30430/61. Class 80 (2). To reduce the idling torque and disengaging time of oil-lubricated discs of a friction clutch, particularly of the electromagnetic type, inner discs 1 and outer discs 3 are provided with apertures 2 and co-operating radial, oblique or tangential oil grooves 4 respectively, arranged so that in any relative position of two adjacent discs at least one or more or all of the apertures 2 register with the faces between the oil grooves 4. On clutch release the centrifugal pressure generated by the oil trapped in the covered apertures acts to separate the discs and, following relative rotary movement of the discs, the oil escapes to lubricate the entire sliding surface of the discs, the apertures being continuously re-filled with oil through the grooves during this movement, maintaining the apertures full for the re-engaged clutch condition. The oil grooves may be curved and may only extend part-way across the friction surface. |
