A 360° cordless electrical connection system for connecting an appliance to a power base may have drainage means formed from a lip or a shroud. A connector may have a removable earth. A bimetallic actuator may be mounted on a chassis which is resiliently mounted on the heating plate, or not coplanar with it. A push rod allows the actuator to be remote from the electrical switch. Actuators may detect the kettle being lifted. The flow of steam to the actuator may be angled. A component, such as the heating element, may be sealed, eg with seal 400 (see Figs 50d-50lk). Shaped contacts (759, Fig 53qco) may guide their counterparts. These reduce the amount of material used.
